Brittany & Eric Summer Session

Brittany & Eric Summer Session

They say high noon on a sunny day is really not the time for photography but I like to break the rules. It's Summer. Sunshine is a key element to Summer, and therefore a great element in Summertime sessions. I'm honestly not sure if I could love these images more. The dappled sunlight filtering through trees and old bridges created some pretty fantastic bokeh as a backdrop to this great family. We tried a new location and it's quite honestly my new favorite. Old train trestle, rushing river, a dam, trees and hills and incredible sunshine-y scenery... and an adorable pair of brothers to boot. Perfect recipe for a Summertime photo session.

Peanut Butter & Chocolate and All Things Nice

Understandably there was a bit of impatience due to the chilly temperatures; not to mention the warm, freshly baked, chocolate smothered peanut butter cookies that were screaming from the kitchen counter where they were cooling. So we went fast, and it was fun. There was more laughter than crocodile tears, and a few chocolate smeared faces along the way to make it epic in the beautiful mess sort of way, which is the sort of work that I love to do.

Lincoln, Neuroblastoma Warrior

He is a breathtaking boy. I have never met a child quite like this little warrior. His bright eyes and beaming smile light up the whole world around him. Literally! He was barely out of his car seat when he was calling and waving excitedly to me, "Hi Brittney!!" He couldn't wait to take pictures. You would think having a photo session with me in the freezing cold was his lifelong dream come true. But then in that short time I spent with him and his family, I realized that every little exciting wonder he experienced--the snow, the icicles, a rushing river, making Bridger laugh, a rail fence, echoes, hand warmers and treats, a beautiful building that "smelt cool" (it had tigers in it, it smelt like cat pee, ha!)--was basically his lifelong dream come true.

Moxon Family | Making Memories

My childhood friend moved back from Colorado this year. Her and her adorable family traded the bustling city life and mountains for the sweetest little farmstead a few miles off the beaten path you ever saw, nestled snuggly in the rolling hills and picturesque sunsets of Wisconsin. This is a family that knows a thing or two about the value of a simple life that allows them to treasure the love they share, the simple fact that every day is a gift, and that life should be more about memories and cute hats, and less about things.

It may have been slightly less than chilly on this beautiful Fall day when we took on the hiking trails of Wakanda Park for a photo shoot. The partly cloudy skies provided slivers of warm sunshine, making the brightly colored fall leaves flicker and dance as they fell. The paths were vibrant with color, and the elk were feeling particularly friendly and curious. The conditions were perfect for some gorgeous shots and this was such a fun family. The toddler enthusiasm of little Brendan was my favorite. He kept us moving quickly and he had interesting ideas for poses but that face and personality added so much spark.

And a Little Boy Named Colton

Heavy downpours had this photoshoot delayed an extra day. We took a little detour from our original destination to discover the quiet peace that is Braun's Bay. The clouds were still heavy, threatening rain at any moment and igniting the fury of the swarming gnats and mosquitos, while the friendly ducks waddled around hoping for handouts.

Willow Shaded Family Session

I have known this family for a little over two years now. Two years of getting to capture their greatest moments, my Canon and I. A country engagement, a barn wedding, an ice fishing pregnancy announcement, a Summery maternity session, an Autumn newborn shoot and now this; a willow shaded, family session in the rugged territory of Hoffman Hills. Seriously, this is one of my favorite spots on all of God's green earth (i.e., Wisconsin) with quite possibly my favorite family (shhh!).

As if on cue, people were swarming us. So many people from almost every direction, all claiming to be part of this same family. I'm not sure I believed them all, but not that I would blame them.

Long story short, I got the job and Anissa didn't think I was weird. Ah, I take that back. She did think I was weird, but it was more of a mutual weirdness. We bonded over chocolate and coffee, how adorable her daughters were, worked out potential trade deals amongst our kids, pranked team members a time or two, and sometimes it was suggested we not sit together during meetings. It was the best day job experience I have ever had.

I admit, it's probably weird that I get excited when I hear of someone having a Down's baby. I just want to croon and aww and say congratulations over and over on giving birth to such a beautiful person. I really can't help myself. You see, for me, I consider myself blessed and fortunate to have grown up with a brother who has Down's.

I love this family. They invited me to their new property to take their family pictures a couple weeks ago and it was nothing short of gorgeous. They're living an adventure right now with their home being situated cozily in the garage while they wait for Spring and the building of their new house.

They came all the way from Athens, Wisconsin! After having spent a couple hours in the car, the kids had tons of energy to burn off. It made the challenge of capturing them and each of their unique personalities all the more fun.

That's when they bring me to this wooded fairyland with bright yellows and greens and reds and browns and whites as far as you could see. It was so pretty! And then we hiked up the hill that overlooks it all, the overcast conditions having created a gigantic softbox to play in. This was probably one of my most breathtaking photography locations, with some pretty awesome people to boot.

In spite of an overcast forecast, the weather was perfect and almost blindingly sunny. Elk Mound Castle is a beautiful location. That day the leaves were just starting to turn, and to be honest with you, that's my favorite uh--we'll call it day--in Fall since it all goes by so fast, where there's still plenty of green but just enough splashes of color for an added touch of beauty.

I love the families who ask me to just come over and capture them for who they are. No stuffing into a perfectly posed box, just living and loving life. Lifestyle photography, I call it. It's my sweet cup of tea, and that's how my photo shoot with Tyler and Mary and their little ladies and big pups always go.
